Summer is the time when one sheds one’s clothes, and the right kind of day is jeweled balm for the battered spirit. A few of those days and you can become drunk with the belief that all’s right with the world.

The sizzling summer days are upon us! We hope everyone had a wonderful 4th of July holiday and that some of you had the chance to take advantage of the summer savings specials available to our United family over on the FunEx website. If you haven’t, there’s still time to get the family out for some summer fun. The email with the link was sent out on June 27th if you didn’t catch it. Hopefully, the extreme heat we have coming up this weekend doesn’t interfere too much with your plans. Whatever you do, stay safe and cool. This heat is not to be messed with!

Spin your wheels with some trivia

Which summer wardrobe staple was first introduced in July 1946?

June Trivia: What little critters can only be seen walking around in the months of May and June?

Answer: Whether you call them June beetles, Junebugs, or May beetles, these small, reddish-brown, clumsy flyers can be annoying. They get their name because of when they emerge. In San Jose, California, these pests come out in June. Other places get them in May, hence the difference. Learn more.

This Day in History

July 4, 1884 – The Statue of Liberty is presented to the United States in Paris.

July 16, 1790 – Congress declares the city of Washington and the District of Columbia the permanent capital of the United States.

A Little Humor Goes a Long Way

“You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4th, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness. You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.”

-Erma Bombeck
