“We spend January 1st walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of work to be done, cracks to be patched. Maybe this year, to balance the list, we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives…not looking for flaws, but for potential.”
-Ellen Goodman

Happy New Year everyone! We hope you were able to wrap up 2022 on a positive note and feel ready to take on all that’s ahead of us. As always, just remember it’s one day at a time. Sometimes, it’s easy to feel deflated to start the year once we come down from the hectic end-of-the-year happenings, so like the quote above, instead of looking for fixes, let’s look for potential and go from there.

Team Trust

Team Trust is counting on you to get the new year started off right. The job is never finished, and there are always things we can improve upon, so don’t hesitate to let us know about it.

We look forward to hearing from you. Some of you are new to the company, so you may not be familiar with Team Trust. Team Trust is a group of your co-workers who are available to you to voice your opinion about any ideas you may have that you feel might help improve the workplace.

Every department has a Team Trust representative that you can go to, and everything you have to say to them remains confidential. We just want to cut through the fog and find out directly from you when something needs to be addressed. Whether it be equipment, facilities or process-related, look for your Team Trust Representative and let them know about the circumstances, and we’ll take it from there. We appreciate your role in helping us do and be better; thank you also to all our Team Trust reps.

Spin your wheels with some trivia

He’s a January baby, but he comes alive in October; who is he?

December Trivia: Which soda manufacturer is thought to have cemented the rosy-cheeked, bearded Santa Claus that is associated with Christmas today?

Answer: The friendly, warm, and grandfather-like image we see of Santa today first appeared in 1931 when Coca-Cola commissioned illustrator Haddon Sundblom to paint Santa Claus for the company’s Christmas adverts.

Giving back

Sometimes, even Santa can use a little extra help around the holidays! It’s a really good day when you have a chance to say thank you to someone who gives so much of himself. A wonderful example of how giving back can touch many lives, not just the recipient: Watch Here

The Surprise Squad stepped in to give this lovely couple going through an extremely challenging period some much-needed relief just before the holidays: Watch Here

Do you know someone in the Las Vegas area you would like to nominate for the Surprise Squad? Hop on to the website and tell us about them.

The New Year’s Resolution. Make it. Break it. Skip it?

Ahhh, those pesky New Year’s resolutions; we love to make them and beat ourselves up when we break them, intentionally or unintentionally.

If there’s anything we have learned about it, it’s that there’s no one way to go about it, so like everything else in life, you find what works best for you and go with that. There is absolutely nothing wrong with making New Year’s resolutions, nor is there anything wrong with breaking them. The reason you made one in the first place is because you found something that you wanted to change or improve upon; how can that be bad for you?

A very important thing to remember is that doing something positive a few times is better than doing nothing at all. How about you break it the first week in March? Is there a rule that says you can’t start it back up July 18th? Or whenever? It doesn’t have to be an all-or-nothing kind of thing, although that may be what works best for some.

You start, stop, finish, restart, etc., whichever way it works for you because sometimes this thing called life gets in the way of our side hustle. Working on bettering yourself is a great side hustle to have, even if you decide to start mid-April instead of January 1st. This little talk is not meant to give you answers; it’s just that, a little talk and some perspective that you may not have thought of before.

Oh, also, maybe you’re the person who doesn’t do New Year’s resolutions because you don’t want to put pressure on yourself or you think you can do something better with your time, that’s fine too, guess what, that’s self-love, and isn’t that what new years resolutions are all about? Have fun with it, guys!

January is National Blood Donor Month, so if you can, please consider donating. Thank you.

Simple Everyday Life Hacks

And lastly…holy cow, I tried this and was amazed at how well it worked!

The Fastest Way to Remove Shell Fragments from Eggs

Ding ding ding. We have a winner! Using an eggshell proved to be the quickest way to remove a smaller piece of eggshell. Apparently, this is because the sharp edge of the eggshell is able to cut through the whites.

Allergies… or something else?

Allergies… or something else? Yuck, seems like the germs are everywhere these few weeks! You may now log on to the government website to once again order free at-home COVID-19 tests. Aside from the free tests, there is also valuable information, such as where to find free testing sites and getting insurance reimbursements.

This Day in History

January 01, 1892 – Ellis Island in New York Harbor opened. Over 20 million new arrivals to America were processed until its closing in 1954. Today, it is believed that approximately 40% of Americans can trace their ancestry through Ellis Island.
