Meet. Learn. Share. Celebrate.
A monthly newsletter for our United Community.

The month of May is the pleasant time; its face is beautiful; the blackbird sings his full song, the living wood is his holding, the cuckoos are singing and ever singing; there is a welcome before the brightness of the summer.
Lady Gregory

The “Lovely Month of May” is upon us. We hope everyone is enjoying the warmer weather and spending some time outdoors before the summer heat sets in.

We would like to wish a Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing moms in our United family, wishing you all the love and happiness that you so richly deserve.

Spin your wheels with some trivia

With the exception of 1945 and 2020, this event has been happening in May every year since 1875, what is it?

April Trivia: What day honoring trees is celebrated in April?

Answer: Arbor Day. Officially celebrated worldwide, usually on the last Friday in April.

Giving back

The Surprise Squad is celebrating 10 years of helping out local heroes and individuals deserving of a little extra help. We look forward to continuing the work we do with the Surprise Squad for many years to come and most certainly could not do it without the hard work you all put in every day.

Meet Eddy, a true hero who fought off a group of attackers to save his sister’s life. With the help of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Eddy was given a very nice surprise to celebrate his heroic efforts: WATCH HERE.

The Surprise Squad walked into a local grocery store to give some unsuspecting shoppers some much-needed relief: WATCH HERE.

Do you know someone you would like to nominate for the Surprise Squad? Hop onto the website and tell us about them.

Health and Wellness Break

In the month of May, we recognize Women’s Health Awareness Week (May 14-20). Way too often, women find themselves taking care of everyone else while neglecting their own health and needs. Ladies, let this serve as a reminder to not forget about yourselves while you’re running around making sure everyone else’s needs are met.

  1. Get your regular checkups (Go Now, Schedule your appointments)
  2. Get Active (Start an evening walking group)
  3. Eat a healthy and balanced diet (Don’t forget your water, also, maybe wine)
  4. Prioritize your mental health and learn how to cope with stress (It’s okay to say no)
  5. Practice healthy behaviors. Daily decisions influence your overall health (Yes, again, it’s okay to say no…and do something for yourself)

3 Simple Everyday Life Hacks

1. Store natural peanut butter upside down so it won’t separate as much. “It will bring the oil to the top and make it a lot easier to mix!” —thisisnotsky

If your white sneakers are stained, non-gel white toothpaste can help. Use an old toothbrush to work toothpaste into the stained parts of your shoes. Leave the toothpaste on your shoes for a few minutes, then wipe off with a damp towel to reveal pearly white shoes.

Flat champagne tends to dampen the party atmosphere. To bring the drink back to life, servers can add a single raisin to the bottle. This unexpected trick brings back the fizz and bubbles, making guests clap and cheer when the server pours a glass.

This Day in History

May 5, 1862 – Mexican forces under Benito Juarez defeated French troops in the Battle of Puebla. Today, this battle is celebrated as Cinco de Mayo.

A Little Humor Goes a Long Way

What do you call a pile of cats?

A meaw-ntain!

Time flies like an arrow.

Fruit flies like…a banana!
